The SBW Berlin Scholarship 2022 is currently open to young international talents who want to pursue a university degree or an apprenticeship in Berlin.

The scholarship covers tuition, room and board in our on-campus student residences, as well as a €6,600 annual living stipend.

SBW Berlin scholarship students plan, implement, and manage their own social non-profit projects from the beginning of their studies. These projects should, ideally, be closely linked to the activities of other non-profit organizations working to improve living circumstances in the scholarship recipient’s native country.

Scholarship Details:

The SBW Berlin Scholarship 2022 supports young talent abroad who have done voluntary social work in their own country. SBW Berlin supports all scholarship holders to achieve their professional goals in their home country.

This is done by supporting SBW Berlin in networking with other organizations, eligible job hunting activities in the scholarship holder’s home country, and subsequent work documentation.

In addition, the developed social non-profit project should have strong ties to the recipient’s home country.

SBW Berlin Scholarship 2022 Duration and Benefits

Support will be provided for a minimum of 30 days and a maximum of 48 months,
according to the standard length of studies in your chosen specialty.


For the duration of the scholarship (the maximum funding period is equal to the regular study period), SBW Berlin covers the necessary living expenses of the scholarship recipient. The full scholarship covers:

  • one room in our shared student apartment in Berlin
  • subsistence allowance of 6,600 € per year
  • tution fee
  • There can also be a travel allowance for your trip to Berlin before the start of your studies and for your return trip after finishing your studies.

SBW Berlin Scholarship 2022 Eligibility

You must meet the following requirements to apply for SBW Berlin Scholarship 2022:

  • From 18 to 30 years old
  • Have professional or volunteering experience in the field of volunteering
  • Have a firm intention to work in the home country for at least 18 months after graduation
  • Can demonstrate relatively low net income
  • Do not have any first-degree family members permanently residing in Germany
  • Can prove that they have not resided in Germany for more than 18 months before applying
  • Have a GPA corresponding to a cumulative GPA of the German language of at least 2.0 third semesters at a state-recognised university (in Germany or abroad) or enrolled in a master’s degree immediately before or after graduating from the baccalaureate

Required Documents

Candidates must be ready to submit the following documents when applying:

  • Application form (fillable PDF or online form)
  • Motivation Letter (1 or 2 pages)
  • Current resume
  • Information on household net income
  • A copy of the latest school or university certificate outlining average grades and grades
  • A copy of the highest degree (Abitur or university certificate) and average grades and grade summary

If possible, you should also attach a copy of the following document:

  • Higher education qualifications
  • Admission to a university in Berlin or Potsdam that you want to study (or have already studied or studying)
  • An internationally recognized vocabulary certificate for the language in which your study is taught
  • Certificates and references for all previous jobs, training, apprenticeships and internships
  • All university certificates and achievement certificates have already been obtained (scored and not scored).

All applicants are encouraged to submit the following additional documents that are not required:

  • One or two letters of recommendation from professors, teachers, employers, etc.
  • Proof of household net income
