AIMS Scholarships for African students is open for students who are interested in pursuing a postgraduate degree at the worldwide university can now apply for 2022 session.

The AIMS Scholarships are completely financed prizes to students of African descent, covering full tuition, relocation stipends, equipment, and research costs.

Scholarship Details:

In partnership with New York’s Carnegie Corporation, the African Institute of Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) invites students in the final stages of a Master’s or Master’s program with an interest in data science and related disciplines. Apply for one of seven attractive PhD scholarships at the pioneering research center of Quantum Leap Africa (QLA) in Rwanda.

Related disciplines are mathematics, statistics, machine learning, cluster analysis, data mining, big data analytics, data visualization, artificial intelligence, neural networks, deep learning, deep learning active, cognitive computing, etc. AIMS will offer up to seven fully funded doctoral positions within this prestigious new doctoral program.

Recruited students will be based in Rwanda at AIMS Rwanda, or at one of the other AIMS centres, in partnership with universities and research institutes across Africa and around the world. The program aims to train future change-makers who will have an impact on academia, industry, education and government.

  • Become an African citizen
  • Hold a master’s degree (completed by September 2022) in mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, physics, or other related fields;
  • Have a sufficient theoretical basis corroborated by previous work (coursework/dissertation/other training);
  • Be eligible to pursue research on the chosen topic, including programming-related expertise;
  • Have research potential as evidenced by academic performance and involvement in relevant academic activities;
  • Be motivated to pursue a PhD through research in the suggested topic

AIMS Scholarships for African Students Duration and Benefit Covers

  • Research period: 4 years
  • Full investment (scholarships, equipment, health insurance, relocation fees, meeting attendance, direct costs to graduation institutions such as tuition and admission fees)
  • International support team of a well-known research institute
  • Research topics that push the boundaries of data science (focusing on AI / ML and / or health)
  • Candidates can choose from a list of proposed research topics, and AIMS will help build a mentoring team on these topics. Alternatively, candidates can suggest their research topics with the proposed supervisory team. Selected students will begin in October 2022.

AIMS Scholarships for African Students Application

  • A small number of finalists will be invited to the second round of the selection process. In Phase 2, a supervisory team is formed and applicants discuss the details of the research project with potential supervisors. In Phase 2, applicants are required to submit detailed research proposals.
