Scholarship Details:

The Cambridge University African Mentoring Program (CAMP), officially known as the ASCU Mentoring Program, is an initiative owned and organized by the Cambridge University Africa Association to provide General guidance and support on the graduate application process for Africans applying to university. of Cambridge.

CAMP is Cambridge University’s first institutionalized African student-led mentoring program for Africans, which provides financial support for application fees as needed. The structured program will run from August 2022 to December 2022 and will include one-on-one counseling support with a paired member of the university. Additional support will be provided to mentors whose applications to Cambridge have been accepted.

CAMP’s primary objective is to increase the number of applications and success rates of African-American graduate applicants to Cambridge. We find that African students make up only about 2% of all new international students entering full-time at Cambridge. African applicants face many barriers to entry such as:

  • Knowledge gaps on important aspects of the Cambridge application
  • Difficulty getting strong reference letters
  • High application fee and English proficiency test fee

ASCU offers a structured mentoring program to provide general guidance and assistance with the application process to African applicants.

CAMP will provide:

  • joint session webinars to discuss tips on how to identify and contact supervisors, as well as how to write strong personal statements and research proposals
  • One-on-one mentoring support with a suitable Cambridge student, alumni or employee
  • Financial support for application fees for mentors in difficulty
